Guyla Harrison Armstrong died in faith on July 8, 2012 after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church in McKinney.
Guyla was born to Everett (Bud) and Gertrude Harrison on December 19, 1941 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Her family moved to Chadron, Nebraska when she was in sixth grade. She graduated from Chadron High School in 1960 and obtained her B.S., M.E., and Ed.D. at the University of Nebraska. During her studies at UNL she met her husband Richard (Dick) Armstrong.
Guyla was a Business Education Teacher for 30 years at the junior high, high school, college, and university levels in Nebraska and California. Upon retirement, Guyla and Dick moved to Allen, Texas in June 2009.
She is survived by her husband Richard, son Jim (Francine), daughters Leslie (Bill) Vinson and Anna (Andrew) Van Orden, and grandchildren Sydne Armstrong, Lucas Vinson, Esme, Aerin, Oliver and Abby Van Orden. Additionally, she is survived by her mother Gertrude, sister Donna (Jim) Brown, niece Darcey (Josh) Carter and nephew, Mark (Julie) Brown and their families and sister-in-law Cynthia Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bud.
