Tom Lavin

December 24, 1935 — April 26, 2012

Tom Lavin passed away after a long illness surrounded by his family on April 26th 2012. He was born in St. Louis Missouri on December 24, 1935. He attended high school at St. Mary's in St. Louis. He served in the Coast Guard Reserve from 1953 to 1967. He graduated St. Louis University with degrees in economics and accounting in 1962. Tom worked for Anheuser Busch from 1953 to 1969 and then moved to Dallas in 1969 and began working for EDS where he remained until his retirement in 1996. Tom worked for Posey Century 21 Realtors for several years but the best years of his retirement were spent on the golf course with his wonderful friends in the Plano Seniors Golf Association.
Tom is survived by his wife of 46 years Mary Jo Lavin, children Kathleen Bowe and her husband Tim, Thomas Lavin and his partner Selby Brown, Mary Owens and her husband Christopher, Joanne Huffstetler and her husband Andrew, Daniel Lavin, grandchildren TJ, Rachel, Ivy, Thomas, Ella and Henry, sister Mary Ann Lavin of St Louis Missouri, brother Patrick Lavin and his wife Rosemary of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is also survived by numerous cousins, loving in-laws and fabulous golfing buddies. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Thomas James and Frances Doherty Lavin, granddaughter Ireland Owens and the best dog ever, Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UT Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center in Dallas, Texas at www.utsouthwestern.edu/donatenow or to Plano Special Olympics, 2306 Lawndale Place, Plano, Texas 75023.
Services will be held at on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 1914 Ridgeview, Allen, Texas 75013. There will be a reception to follow immediately following the service.
