Hylah R. McCollum was born on July 15, 1940 in Spickard, Missouri to parents Raymond and Frances Wilson. She never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile. She was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri and pursued a Masters Degree at the University of Missouri. She was always involved in any and all activities in which the family was involved. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and team mom for all other sports. While her main career was raising two young men, Brad and Ryan McCollum she also had several other careers. She was an English teacher, World Book Encyclopedia sales person, Administrative Assistant for several companies and for the past 4 years a devoted employee of Harley Davidson Financial Services in Plano, Texas. She would do anything for anyone in the Harley Davidson family. She was also "PR Director" for both Brad and Ryan supporting their effort for college scholarships, letters of reference and in their future professional careers. She was like a mom to many and a grandmother to all children she met. Hylah had a zest for life and endless energy. She created many ways to engage and support woman in need of friendship, companionship, laughter and fun. A prime example is the Good Egg Club in which she was President and Founder and was known as "The Sunflower" of the club. She made up nicknames for everyone and made them feel special and important. Hylah brought joy to everyone's life. She would take on tasks that others thought not achievable. When most people would ask, "can we do that?" Hylah would just get it done. Hylah had a genuine concern for everyone. If she had not seen someone at church or the Good Egg Club breakfast she would call and make sure everything was okay in their life. She kept her "Grand Central Station" very busy. She was the glue that kept everyone all together. She was a shoulder to cry on and a wonderful encourager. Hylah was especially concerned that every visitor to Christ United Methodist Church was greeted and welcomed with open arms. She wished for everyone to share and revel in the call to worship as did she. Keeping in line with her being a role model for always having a positive outlook and being content with whatever the circumstances were, Hylah took cancer by the horns and had a motto of "Let's go for it!". She taught us all how to die with faith intact, strength in courage and knowing we're never alone but always surrounded by God's love. Hylah passed away on April 2, 2012 and will be remembered forever and loved always by those who knew her. She is survived by her sons Brad McCollum and his wife Wendy and Ryan McCollum, grandsons Nick, Zack and Tyler McCollum, sister Joy Wilson and her husband Mike, niece Jill Wiggins and her husband Dennis and their children Hayden and Caleb and niece Jenny Wilson. A memorial service to celebrate Hylah's life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Road Plano, Texas 75075. A reception will follow the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made in Hylah's name to Christ United Methodist Church - Methodist Scholarship Fund or Methodist Service Group.
