Jonathan Fred Tanner

October 22, 1940 — March 9, 2012

Jonathan Fred Tanner was born October 22, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Lowell and Lorraine Tanner.

Jon's career included many years as an IS Director and Business Consultant, working from Chicago to Jamaica to Corpus Christi then to Dallas about twenty five years ago. His final position was in Toronto Canada where he worked implementing business plans and systems for nuclear manufacturing. He retired at the age of 63.
Jon had many interests and excelled in everything he did. His first love was the study of the Bible, researching and teaching Bible studies. In fact, the image behind John's picture is the marker of where Christ was born. He loved to read and did so insatiably. No topic was ignored, and his library was full of hundreds of books. For years Jon combined scuba diving with underwater photography. When his health no longer permitted him to dive he became an avid fisherman. But whatever he did, he did whole-heartedly.

Jon loved all animals. His other big love were his cats-his children. Each was unique as Jon was unique. Each got his or her special kind of attention each day, and each gave their full and unqualified love just as Jon gave his to all of us.

Jon loved to travel and his trip to the Holy Land 2 years ago changed him giving him an even deeper faith to see where his Savior was born, lived and died. In recent years he traveled extensively to Hawaii, Zimbabwe, Africa, England and several locations in the Caribbean.

Most of all, Jon was loved for his sense of humor and compassion for others. Jon's smile was contagious, and he always had a quick joke. He supported his friends without being asked. Being around him was a joy. Any acquaintance soon became a close friend. He embraced life with his entire being and a happy heart. The world is a little less bright without him.

Jon is survived by his wife Susan, two grown sons, brother Michael Tanner, sister Linda Tanner, sister and brother in law Peggy and Buddy Stapp, niece Lee Ann Begis, nephew Rusty Stapp and a host of loving cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his twin brother Tom Tanner.
