On August 15th my sweet and brave husband grew tired so God put his arms around him and whispered "Come with Me."
Ron was born in Waynesburg, PA in 1939, the son of Roger and June Scott. Ron was the oldest of four brothers all of whom preceded him in death. Ron attended Millville High School in Millville, New Jersey, attended college at Penn State and was later appointed to the United States Naval Academy and was in the graduating calss of 1964. We met on a flight from Philadelphia, PA to Los Angeles, where he was joining his ship for his first deployment to Vietnam. We corresponded during his tour and upon his return six months later we became engaged and were later married in 1966. Ron had three tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the USS DeHaven and later the USS Halsey. Ron was Electronics Officer on the Halsey and received the Navy Achievement Medal and Navy Commendation Medal. The Halsey was responsible for rescuing 22 downed US pilots. When his tour was completed, he was recruited by IBM in Los Angeles, he later transferred to Dallas. He earned a MBA from Southern Methodist University in 1984. Ron later worked at EDS Corporation in Plano, TX until his retirement. Ron enjoyed playing golf, camping with the kids and playing bridge. Ron leaves behind his wife Joan, daughter Samantha Varjian of Plano, daughter Jennifer Scott of Plano and daughter Kelly Morris of Nashville, TN. and four grandchildren, Hatcher Morris, Brooke Morris, Parker Morris, and Garin Varjian. We will remember him as a brave fighter to the end, a wonderful father, grandfather and husband. As the end grew near, he never complained and always let those around him know that he was thankful for all their kindness.
The family would like to thank Dorcas Chikerema for being part of our family and helping us with his care at home, and in the last weeks of his life, the Clyde Cosper Veterans Home, their wonderful staff and nurses and Century Plus Hospice for the care and love that was given to him the last weeks of his life.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated for Ron on Friday August 19, 2011 at 10:30 AM. A reception will follow in the Parrish Hall.
In lieu of flowers donations in honor of Ron may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association www. mdausa.org.
Only in my spirit can I still run up a green grassy hill. Only in my spirit can I still skip along a shady park path. Only in my memory can I still run in out of the cold windy weather or walk along the beach. Only in my heart can I still dance to the music. And as real as it may seem, it is only in my dreams I still soar and glide with ease. There is no effort or pain, no heavy dragging of feet. In my spirit and in my dreams, My heart is so light. My steps are so sure and my arms are still strong and Yes, I can still run.
