Norman Anderson

December 7, 1926 — July 6, 2011

Norman Anderson passed away peacefully on July 6, 2011, at The Medical Center of Plano.

Norman was born in Fitchburg, MA in 1926 to the late Helen (Nikula) and Thure Anderson. Along with his sisters, Thelma Cousins and Lorraine Dowd, who both predeceased him, Norm grew up in Old Orchard Beach, ME where he was a lifeguard during the summer months. Norm's profession was sales and management, but his passion was for music. He played several instruments and sang in barbershop quartets and church choirs. As a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, Norm served as the director of his regiment's band. During his basic training, he was also a member of the honor guard for FDR's funeral in Warm Springs, GA.

After the army, Norm graduated from the University of Maine, where he was in several musicals and was elected president of his fraternity, Sigma Nu. After his marriage, Norm lived with his wife and children in Marlboro, MA and Park Ridge, NJ before moving to Plano, TX in 1990. He learned to ski when his children did and eventually became a member of the 50+ ski club. Norm was Treasurer of the Men's Club at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, enjoying many of their activities, especially the Casino Nights. He also enjoyed playing golf with The Plano Seniors and shooting hoops with his family, especially in his pool.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eileen (Basiliere), their daughter Lorraine Langille and her husband David of Northbridge, MA, their son Charles and his wife Suzana (Petrovic) of Jakarta, Indonesia, their daughter Ellen Geronimo and her husband Frank of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, and their son Thomas and his wife Elizabeth (Ryan) of Waldwick, NJ along with their grandchildren Alex, Emily and Luke.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in Plano at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM. A memorial service will be held for family and friends in Massachusetts at a later date.
