Melvin (Mel) Patton

June 23, 1945 — November 1, 2011

Melvin Alton Patton was born on June 23, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama to parents Palmer and Hazel Patton.



He was in the music sales industry for over 30 years during which time he had the opportunity to meet numerous artists from a variety of music genres.



Mel was a devoted father and coached his children in baseball and soccer. He also enjoyed being Grandpa and was blessed with the opportunity on a recent visit to see his grandsons play soccer.



After Mel's retirement he loved to camp, travel and go on cruises. Last February he narrowly escaped an ice storm in the Dallas area while being on a Hawaiian cruise ship.



He was a fan of the University of Alabama football team and the Texas Rangers.



Mel was called home to be with The Lord on November 1, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife Christine, whom he met in New Orleans in 1970 and married in July of 1971. Also surviving are son Michael Patton and his wife Jill, daughter Melissa Patton, grandsons Jacob and Joshua Patton, brother Earl Patton and his wife Margaret, step-brothers Tom McCutchen and his wife Roetta, Jim McCutchen and wife Jeannie, brothers and sisters by marriage Tom and Linda Barr, Jerry Barr, Peggy and Tim Klinger, John and Beverly Barr and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Mel is preceded in death by his parents and step mother Alma Patton Parker.



The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas 75023 with Father John Szatkowski, Celebrant. A reception will follow at the Faith Formation Center, 3100 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas.



If desired, the family suggests memorials be made to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Benevolence Fund. Checks may be mailed to 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy Plano, Texas. 75023
