Jerry Batkiewicz, 71, of Plano, beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, lost his battle with lung cancer Saturday June 25. Jerry was born December 4, 1939 in Streator, Illinois to John and Cecilia Batkiewicz, who preceded him in death along with his sister Dorothy Trewartha and his brother Bill. Jerry was married to Louise Novotney Batkiewicz also of Streator, Illinois and they have shared 50 wonderful years together. Jerry was a devoted servant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic church, regularly serving as an usher. Jerry was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, St Elizabeth Ann Seton Council #7850.
Jerry was blessed with and cherished by his family; wife Louise, son Daniel Batkiewicz of Plano, Texas, and daughter Debbie Batkiewicz Sanders and son-in-law Dean Sanders of Terre Haute, Indiana. Jerry adored his two grandchildren, Megan and Justin Sanders of Terre Haute, Indiana and was a constant attendee of soccer games, piano recitals and pretty much any other excuse he could find to spend time with them. Jerry is also survived by a brother, Gene of Dix Hills, New York, his Mother in Law, Louise Novotney of Streator, Illinois, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jerry retired after a 40-year career with Owens-Brockway Glass Co. Jerry enjoyed traveling and socializing with friends. He also enjoyed watching the Cowboys play football and car racing. Jerry felt very rewarded working with the Special Olympics and other service projects along with his fellow knights. He loved working with his tools, even handcrafting his grandchildren's baby cradle. He lived his life believing that anything worth doing was worth doing right.
We will miss his warm smile, humorous personality, never ending generosity and unconditional love he had for all of his family and friends.
