James Kubota was born on June 3, 1932 to parents Lester and Maybelle Bollinger in Toledo, Ohio and left this earth on December 12, 2011.
James was the eldest of five children, and between them they always found a way to make mischief. Humorous, and sometimes horrific, stories were plenty when he got together with his brother at the dinner table. He left the nest early, joining the Ohio State Guard when he was 14 years old, and went into the Army when the Guard was disbanded. Later on he switched gears and joined the Air Force, pursuing his love of flying. His military career saw him at the end of WWII and took him to Korea, where he was taken Prisoner of War at the age of 18. When the Marines rescued that group of POW's, James weighed only 85 lbs. His fighting spirit and love of life carried him through, as it did the many trials he faced in his lifetime. He and Michiru (Linda), met when he was stationed overseas, and in 1954 they were married at the American Consulate in Fukuoka, Japan. Together they shared many adventures over the years, spending countless hours side by side in business and at play. From fishing the open seas, to flying among the clouds in their Cessna, to dancing the night away at a swanky club, they always lived life to the fullest. When daughter Misty was born, he wore the mantle of "Dad" proudly, and relished his role as a grandfather when grand-daughter Jami came along. He never thought he could spoil his girls too much. James had a tremendous heart, and gave of himself without reserve. He gave his time and energy to those in need, and opened his home to many, whether they be 2 legged or 4. He will always be remembered for his vibrant personality, his loyalty to friends and family, and his tremendous capacity to love.
James is survived by wife Michiru Kubota, daughter Misty Kubota, grandaughter Jami Kubota and brother Ronald Bollinger.
