He attended high school in Wellington, Texas and was associated with farming much of his life. He liked very much to reminisce about working long hot days as a young child "pulling bolls" on dry land farms. Mr. Belew served in the liberation of Luzon, Philippine Islands in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant with the 43rd Infantry Division, 103rd Regiment. He was later sent to Japan in the Army of Occupation.

He is preceded in death by his wives Virginia and Neoma, son Steve and a baby daughter who lived for a short time after birth. Virginia was the mother of Grady's three children. He is survived by his wife of over 16 years, MaryAnne, son Gary and his wife Karla, stepchildren Melanie Cady, Scott Smith and his wife Elisa, grandchildren Adam and Ryan Belew, step grandchildren Ricky, Joshua and Morgan Smith.

Grady's passion for God, family and community was illustrated by his devout service as a Deacon for the Channing, Texas First Baptist Church for over 30 years, as a member of First Foursquare Church in Amarillo, and member of the Faith Fellowship Church, Lucas Texas. He spent many years volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the Cornerstone Outreach Center, providing for those whom he believed less fortunate than himself throughout his entire life.
