Evelyn Marie Massey

September 7, 1922 — October 6, 2011

Evelyn Maria Massey was born on September 7, 1922 in Fairfax, Oklahoma to loving parents Whitney and Lula Mauldin. After a wonderful life she went to join her Father in Heaven on October 6, 2011.

Momma, Ma, and Grandma are all names that Evelyn went by during her life. Evelyn enjoyed her time in each of these roles. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Homer, and loving parent, grandmother, and great grandmother. Family was important to Evelyn. She looked forward to weekend visits from her family and the grandkids always enjoyed the long stays over the summers. Holidays were a time that the entire family relished being together. Most holidays, the family could be found in Gainesville celebrating. One tradition that everyone anticipated was at Christmas. On Christmas morning, after all the presents had been opened, she would make sure the family stopped to remember the real reason for Christmas. She would ask everyone to gather around and hear her read the Christmas story out of Luke.

During her life, Evelyn worked at the family owned insurance company as well as keeping the household running. One of her passions outside of work was to go bird watching. She and her friends of the Nature Club enjoyed going out into the country and seeing what new birds they could find. In her backyard, you could find a wide variety of birdhouses and bird feeders. She always liked to look out her sliding glass door and view the birds that came throughout the seasons.

Homer and Evelyn took many trips over the years. Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and the Texas Coast and Hill Country were just a few of their favorite locations. She was able to incorporate family in several of these trips. Over the years, the whole family would head out with them to Colorado. While on her trips, she was always on the lookout for native birds.

Although she loved all these things, she always put God and the church first. She took time each day to read the Bible and pray. Her strong faith had an influence to many and had a huge impact on all of her family members becoming Christians. She was extremely active in the church. Throughout her life, she sang in the senior choir, was a teacher in the children's department, and participated in the homebound TV program, along with so many other areas in the church.

Everyone who came into contact with Evelyn was blessed and came away a better person from the time they spent with her. She will be extremely missed here on earth, but we know she is in a better place and look forward to one day meeting up with her again in heaven!
