George Maurice Brantzeg

September 18, 1927 — June 4, 2010

George Maurice Brantzeg, 82, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010 from complications related to Parkinson's disease.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 18, 1927 to George D. Brantzeg and Alice Lower Brantzeg he lived there until 1996 when he moved to Plano, Texas. As a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as a high priest in the church. He served a mission in Manchester, England from 1949 - 1952.

George attended West High School in Salt Lake City, and graduated from the University of Utah in accounting. He obtained his CPA and worked as an auditor. In 1960 George began his career as Systems Engineer at IBM Corp. He retired after 30 years at IBM and continued his career as an independent contractor until his 75th year.

George married Annette Rollins in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 22, 1961. Although they were both only children, they had six children because they didn't want their children to ever be alone.

One of George's passions in life was traveling. He traveled to six continents, 50 states, and 45 countries throughout the world. He had an inquisitive mind and a passion for history, geography, and LDS Doctrine. He had the ability to organize information in his mind and could lead fascinating speeches and discussions without notes. He was an excellent speaker and teacher. His kids often said they didn't need an encyclopedia, they could just ask Dad.

Family and friends were important to George. He loved to travel to visit friends and cousins from his youth and has several relationships that have lasted a lifetime. He is survived by his wife, six children: Adrienne Larson (Shane), Andrea Thomas (Kyle), Elaine Peters (Michael), Elyse Brantzeg (Michael Rooney), Russell Brantzeg (Michelle), Steven Brantzeg, seventeen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother Alice Lower Brantzeg and his father George Daniel Brantzeg.

A visitation will be held Sunday June 20, 2010 at Allen Family Funeral Options 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 11:00 am at 2401 Legacy Dr., Plano, TX 75023. A special viewing prior to services will be at 10:00 am at the church.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, Utah, 84335 with interment to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Smithfield Cemetery in Smithfield, Utah.
