Cecil West Jr

January 9, 1927 — June 17, 2011

Cecil West, Jr., age 84, died Friday, June 17, 2011. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Reba Price West.



Cecil was a sergeant in the army and a WWII Veteran. Due to his pride in serving his country he continued to serve others throughout his life. Cecil was very active in the Plano community. He was instrumental in the development of the Senior Citizen Center, fundraising activities for the Senior Wellness Center, and he was responsible for the Bread Pick-up program. He served on the Plano Senior Center Council which created the Plano Senior Coalition.



Cecil was an extremely active member at Custer Road United Methodist Church. He served as chairman of their Board of Trustees as well as receiving the "Man of the Year" award. He was instrumental is assisting with the purchase of 17 acres of land at Legacy and Custer Road for the church. His greatest contribution to the church was his goodness and living a Godly, Christ centered life.



His many hobbies included playing Bridge and Duplicate, traveling throughout the United States, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. Cecil really enjoyed grilling and he always smoked a turkey at Thanksgiving. He was a dedicated fan of Texas Rangers baseball, watching the ballgames whenever he could.





He taught us how to Live and that is why so many people loved him.





Cecil is survived by his two daughters Cathy J. West of Allen, Texas and Celia West Vaughn of Little Elm, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brandon and Shelby Vaughn, son-in-law Michael Vaughn, sister and brother-in-law Sarann and Bobby Nolen, Brother and sister-in-law Bowlus and Pennye West, brother and sister-in-law Norman and Virginia West, sister-in-law Judy West and many nieces and nephews.



In addition to his loving wife, Cecil was preceded in death by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerol and Robbie Price.



A memorial service in Cecil's honor will be held at Custer Road United Methodist Church in the chapel on Wednesday June 22, 2011 at 3:00 PM
