Mrs. Myrna Kathleen Baines, age 73, of McKinney, Texas died Saturday, May 01, 2010 at her home. Myrna was born March 26, 1937 in DeKalb County, Georgia, the daughter of Mack Cever Partain and Doris Odell Moore Partain.
Myrna attended Avondale High School in Avondale Estates, Georgia and Georgia State College in Atlanta, Georgia.
She accepted Jesus as her Savior at age 11 and was baptized at Mountain View Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia in August of 1948.
Bob and Myrna were married on June 14, 1958 at the same church where she was baptized. They had three daughters, Robin Kathleen Berdon, Rebecca Elaine Layton and Peggy Ann Judkins. She had several jobs, most recently Blue Cross/Blue Shield and JCPenney. However, first and foremost, she was a wife and mother.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Plano, where she served in various capacities over the years. Myrna's hobbies were furniture refinishing, sewing, reading, crocheting and shopping. She enjoyed collecting milk glass, mason jars and various antique kitchenware.
Myrna was very good sister, however, very bossy. We are wondering how we are going to manage our lives without someone to tell us what to do. If we ever got into an altercation we always wished Myrna was there to help us like she did when we were growing up. When she was a teenager she was a beautiful young woman and all the boys wanted to date her. She never minded us tagging along with her friends, even on dates. When she turned 16 she asked her father for a car and he graciously provided a 1936 Plymouth Coupe. Once again, she was happy for her sisters to tag along, riding on the two apple crates that served as her back seat. She was such a perfectionist and while waiting for the school bus would wear her oldest shoes and carry her pristine white ballet slippers to put on after arriving at school. She was frugal, a strong person and handled the last two years of her life in such a courageous and brave manner. She was always upbeat and positive.
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents and her daughters, Wendy, who died at birth and Robin Baines Berdon, who passed away February 5, 2008. She is survived by her husband Robert Madison Baines of the home, daughter Rebecca and husband Shannon Layton of Ft. Worth, Texas daughter Peggy and husband Kevin Judkins of McKinney, Texas, son in law Bill Berdon of Martinez, Georgia, six grandchildren Sarah and Elizabeth Berdon of Martinez, Georgia, Samantha Layton of Ft. Worth, Texas and Kaitlyn, Hunter and Tanner Judkins of McKinney, Texas.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Monday, May 3, 2010 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Plano, 1300 E. 15th St., Plano, Texas 75074 with funeral services to follow at 1:30 with Dr. Jerry Carlisle officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Myrna's name to either Joni and Friends International Disability Center, www.joniandfriends.org, or Dallas Down Syndrome Guild, www.downsyndromedallas.org.
