Patti Gene Carlton

September 20, 1954 — May 18, 2020

Patti Gene (York) Carlton, 65, was the second of four children, and the only daughter, born to Billy Mack and Patricia Moyleen (Redmond) York on September 20, 1954 in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from North Garland High School, Class of 1973. After high school, Patti began working as a dental assistant and then as office manager in Dallas. She enrolled in Richland Community College taking night classes where she met her future husband. Patti accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and followed in believer’s baptism March 13, 1977. Patti and David exchanged their marriage vows on November 18, 1978 in their home church, First Baptist Church, Plano. She soon volunteered and found her calling teaching 3rd and 4th grade children’s Bible Study classes on Sunday mornings. She served in this role for 26 years and then shared her gift of serving with the Young Married Couples class. She was employed for nine years as administrative assistant to the pastor at her home church. Patti greatly loved the experience of serving as the church wedding coordinator to over 85 couples. The most important priority for Patti was being the best wife to David and the mother to their two boys. She spent precious time with them in the early years and soon become the “taxi” driver to all the sports, family, neighborhood, and church activities. She spent several years as “a stay at home mom” where she was an active volunteer and participant in Parent Teacher Association, “class room mom”, booster club, Cub Scouts of America, baby sitting co-op, and various church committees and programs. Later in life, she cherished every moment she could spend with her two precious grandchildren. Patti’s patented smile and compassionate heart for children carried over to making many close and wonderful lifetime friends that she cherished dearly. Her favorite sport was shopping, and she became an extreme sports champion of shopping during holiday sales events. Her favorite vacation destinations were anywhere there was warm weather, a nice sandy clean ocean beach, a book, a beach chair, and, oh, yes – sun glasses. Her love of beaches began in her early years with family trips to Galveston, TX as a child. Hawaii remained her favorite beach destination out of many, many beaches. Patti is survived by her husband, David Carlton, of 41 blessed years and their two beloved sons Micah and wife Leslie (David) Carlton of Frisco, Texas, with grandchildren Aiden and Baylie; and Jared of Portland, Oregon; beloved parents Billy Mack York and Step-Mother Eileen Matzen Hogman York of Mabank, Texas; brother Moshe Solomon and wife Cruz (Silva) of Kingsville, TX and children Patricia, and Geneva with husband Kevin Hall Jr. and children Logan and Dean; niece Amber and husband John Henderson of Austin, TX with children Avery, Emma, and Major. Patti also brings worthy tribute to her aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who help make life sparkle even in the dark days. Patti was preceded in death by her mother Patricia (Pat) Redmond York of Garland, Texas, brothers Gary Dean York and Michael Wayne York, Grandparents: Moye Lynn Redmond , Geneva Wright Redmond Hargis, Jessie B and Mary Frances (Elson) York, and Great Grandmother Louise Murray Redmond. Officially diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in April 2012, Patti continued to live life abundantly until God called her home. But her patent smile still remains in our hearts and memories.
