Kevin Vance MacGibbon, 62, of Plano, Texas passed away this past Monday afternoon at Medical City Plano surrounded by his wife of 39 years and his three children.
Originally from Derry, New Hampshire, Kevin was the epitome of a quiet professional and fiercely competitive in every facet of his life. A gifted athlete in many sports, Kevin became a 2 x All-American lacrosse goalie at the United States Military Academy. He met his wife, best friend, and partner for life, Carol Young MacGibbon at West Point before graduating together in 1980. They married on October 10th, 1981 and have three children, Jennifer, Jeffrey, and James.
Kevin served as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany from 1980-1985, on the front lines of the Cold War. He excelled in the Army, graduating from the Army’s premier leadership development school, earning his Ranger tab and Airborne wings. He was proud of both; but, not nearly as proud as his family was of him.
Kevin’s passion for his family knew no bounds; it was his defining characteristic. He cherished his wife and touted his children proudly as the true joys of his life. A devoted family-man and disciplined worker, Kevin worked tirelessly to enrich his family’s life. Up before the sun every day, Kevin provided for his loved ones and continuously molded his children into exceptional adults who lead phenomenal lives. Their successes are his legacy.
Taking advantage of every moment, he built an indelible legacy through a lifetime of small moments. The athletes he coached will always remember practices tougher than games and Coach’s uncanny ability to connect with every player, divining the very best from them. His family remembers the deep and lasting values he instilled in them. And his friends will remember his consistent and dependable camaraderie.
Kevin loved the Green Mountains of Vermont, pool parties with his family, embracing early mornings, and falling asleep during movies with his wife.
He was an unending wealth of sound advice, a diligent son, a devoted husband, a nurturing father, and the rock of his family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward MacGibbon.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Carol, mother, Suzanne MacGibbon, children, Jennifer, Jeffrey, and James, son-in-law, Nicholas Barry, daughter-in-law, Sarah MacGibbon, grandchildren, Caden and Caitlyn Barry, brothers, Kendall (Kathy), Kyle (Julee) and Karl (Nancy), sisters Kimberly (Scott) and Kristine (Billy), and numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.
