Gerard "Jerry" William Maloney

September 7, 1946 — December 8, 2019

Gerard (Jerry) William Maloney was born September 7, 1946 in Seaforth, Ontario, to parents William and Marie (Flannery) Maloney.  He passed away December 8, 2019 at the age of 73.

Jerry was the youngest of two brothers and grew up in the greater Toronto, Canada suburb of Kitchener. Like many young Canadians, he had aspirations for a life in the hockey world and possibly even the NHL. After his competitive playing days were over, he set his sights on becoming a hockey Trainer, which in that era consisted of managing equipment, medical issues and everything in between. His first job was with the Eastern League’s Charlotte Checkers before moving on to the Omaha Knights. It was in Omaha where he would meet his future wife, Diane. In the mid-1970’s, Jerry achieved his goal of reaching the NHL as the Head Trainer for the expansion Kansas City Scouts.  When the team relocated several years later, Jerry instead moved with Diane, George, Brent and Kim back to Charlotte for a second stint with the Checkers.  Then, it was on to British Columbia, Canada to be near family where he worked in Sales. Knowing he eventually wanted to get back into hockey, he took a job with the New York Rangers’ top affiliate, the New Haven Nighthawks.  After just one season, he was promoted to Head Trainer of the New York Rangers and was again in the NHL.

In the late 1980’s, an injury forced his early retirement from the Rangers. As a result, and with the adult kids grown, Jerry, Diane and Craig then moved to Bellingham, Washington where they would remain until the early 2000s. Eventually settling in Dallas, Texas in 2004, he and the entire family of all his children and grandchildren have since enjoyed being in the same city. A career change led to his working in Operations for the developmental tour (Nationwide/Web.Com/Korn Ferry Tour) of the PGA for the past 15 years. During his tenure in the golf industry, Jerry gained the respect and admiration of his colleagues and once again built many life-long friendships.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; one daughter, Kim; three sons, George, Brent and Craig, all of the Dallas, Texas area; nine grandchildren and countless loving nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends throughout North America.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Maloney; mother, Marie Maloney; brother, Fergus Maloney and sister-in-law, Pat Maloney.

The family will receive friends at a Funeral Service at Noon on Friday, December 20, 2019, at Allen Family Funeral Options, with a reception to follow.

If it is your wish, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the charity of your choice or helping someone in your own life who might need it…much in the way that Jerry did the same.
