Elizabeth “Liz”’ Collins joined her beloved Bill Collins on October 9, 2020.
Liz was born in Longview, Texas, and grew up in Houston with her parents Juanita and Herbert J. Allen, along with her sisters Margaret and Emily.
She met William “Bill” Collins at The University of Texas at Austin while completing her Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a majorette for the University of Texas Longhorn Band, as well as a participating member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
They married in 1956 and began their family with the birth of Lisa. Jim and Tori added to their joy over the next few years. She was very involved in community and church events, as well as all activities her children were involved in. She was a Realtor in Greenville, Texas for many years, and later enjoyed running her Antique business in several shops across North Texas.
Her pride and love for her family made her open to welcoming many people into her life and home, and many benefitted from her generosity over the years. An accomplished cook and hostess, she made sure that everyone was “spoiled” while attending their social events.
After retirement, they built their dream home on Lake Ray Hubbard in Heath, Texas. There they had the best view for watching spectacular Texas sunsets. The Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church became their new church “home” and the friendships they developed were cherished.
Liz is survived by her sister Emily Vavra of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her children Lisa Collins Evans (Michael) of Sarasota, Florida, Jim Mark Collins (Lisa) of Tucson, Arizona, and Tori Collins Bruce (Donald) of Plano, Texas, grandchildren Ross Collins (Kelsey) of Poulsbo, Washington, Jenna Hennessy (Sutton) of Gainesville, Texas, Carter Collins of Beaufort, South Carolina, Tyler Bruce of Dillon, Colorado and Hunter Bruce of Dallas, Texas. In recent years, she was able to celebrate the joys of her great grandchildren Harper, Glynn, Caidden, and Blair. She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Collins and her sister, Margaret Davis.
She has resided near her daughter Tori this year at Prestonwood Court and thrived in their community until her health declined. She will join Bill in their columbarium at the Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church.
There will be a service to celebrate the life of Liz on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church, 1524 Smirl Drive, Heath, Texas. Go to www.htbtl.org for more information about attending in-person (60 person limit, masks and social distancing required) or joining online htbtl.org/livestream .
