John William Schultz

March 6, 1927 — March 21, 2017

John William Schultz passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in McKinney, Texas on
March 21, 2017. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma March 6,1927 and lived there most
of his life. He raised seven children, three of whom have preceded him in death. The surviving
family consists of three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren
and his devoted dachshund, Daisy May.
Following high school graduation, John enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He was
assigned to the US Navy and served on the USS General Gordon Troop Transport on missions
to Marseille, France, the Panama Canal, Manila and Yokohama, Japan. Following his honorable
discharge in Seattle, Washington in 1946, he returned to Oklahoma City to pursue his degree in
chemical engineering at the University of Oklahoma.
As a Navy reservist, he was recalled to active duty in 1950 and served two years at Pearl
Harbor.
Later, John became a United States Air Force civil employee at Tinker Air Force Base. During
his tenure, he was honored with The Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his role as Chief
Procurement Officer on the B52 Major Structural Modification Program. He retired in 1990 and
soon after relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas.
John was a devout Catholic all his life. His concern for others, especially "the poorest of the
poor", is evidenced by his support of dozens of Catholic charities. The most important of these,
The Ark Assessment Center and Emergency Shelter for Youth in Corpus Christi, became a
labor of love for him. He was a major benefactor, but gave equal parts time, energy and talent to
expand and improve the facility. He often spoke of the dedication of those who run The Ark and
their commitment to the children in their care.
He enjoyed history, conservative politics, the stock market, spicy food, tennis on TV, Jazz and
the Dallas Cowboys. He shared his religious convictions freely, and through his example he
made better people of us all.
Now John is at peace with Our Lord in Heaven and will be remembered lovingly by those he left
behind.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 3:00pm at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas 75023 with Father Bruce Bradley, Celebrant. John will be laid to rest in the Seton Columbarium. A reception will follow.
