Fran Petroff

April 17, 1946 — February 22, 2019

Frances (Fran) Petroff was born April 17, 1946 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; she was the second child of five born to her parents, Henry and Angelina (Mastrilli) Meszar.

Fran met her future husband, John Miller Petroff, in 1962, while they both were working on a high school musical. John knew she was the one he would marry. In September of 1967, they were married and started their 52-year adventure together. In 1969 they took their show on the road and moved from Pennsylvania to Texas. Later that year, her first child, Melissa was born. In 1970, her son, John was born.

Fran was a nurse by profession, getting her RN from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. During her time as an RN, Fran worked in a variety of positions, including working in the ICU, in Labor and Delivery, as a Summer Camp Nurse, in Mental Health, Industrial Manufacturing Nurse, School Nursing Coordination, and ended her career at the Plano ISD as the Assistant Director of Benefits and Risk Management.

While nursing was Fran’s professional, her vocation was loving others as Christ loved her. She showed this in a variety of ways. She volunteered on mission trips to Mexico, building homes for the poor with her children’s youth group, and later in life on a medical mission to impoverished areas of Peru. She served in many service roles within the church, including as a member of prayer teams, eucharistic minister, lectern, alter guild, singing in the choir, teaching children’s Sunday school, and table leader in women’s ministry. Fran constantly visited the sick, believing that no one should be alone on their first night in a hospital. Perhaps her greatest gift was her prayer warrior status. Fran loved to pray, and to pray for others. For many of us, when the first signs of trials or tribulations came, we would call Fran. She not only prayed for our concerns, but she prayed for our souls. Many have professed how their faith journey started or was guided by Fran’s loving council and prayers.

Fran was a loving wife, caring mother, and most of all, a Granny. She loved her grandchildren dearly, spending hours at soccer, baseball, football and basketball games. She went to countless band and orchestra concerts, and even attended, out of love, some painful musicals. Fran loved to laugh with her grandchildren, loved to sing songs (even if she did not know the words), loved to play games with them and even worked to teach them poker.

Fran is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John M Petroff; daughter Melissa McKay and son-in-law Chad McKay; son John Petroff and daughter-in-law Patricia Petroff; grandchildren Michaela, McKenna and Montana McKay, Jack and Benjamin Petroff; mother-in-law Marilyn Petroff; sisters and brothers-in-law Regina and Jake Scandrol, Michelle and Robert Walker; Susan and Robert Rea; sisters-in-law Marguerite Meszar, Barbara Meszar and Nancy Tremblay; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Fran is preceded in death by parents Henry P Meszar and Angelina (Mastrilli) Meszar Filbert; step-father Elmer Filbert; brothers Henry P. Meszar; Timothy Meszar; father-in-law John Petroff; and nephew Henry Meszar.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate her Lord and her life Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. in the Main Sanctuary at Christ Church Plano, 4550 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas with the reception to follow in Fellowship Hall.
