Edward "Steve" Stephen Piter

Edward Stephen Piter, resident of Allen, Texas, formerly of The Woodlands, Texas, was born December 7, 1940 in Prague, Oklahoma to Joseph and Gladys Piter and entered into eternal rest in Allen, Texas on January 27, 2019.

Steve lived his early years in Prague, Oklahoma with his sister and two brothers before moving to Yale, Oklahoma where he lived during his high school years. Steve attended nearby Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated in 1963 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, Steve relocated to Louisiana to pursue a career designing off shore oil platforms. In 1964, he met the love of his life, Marie Billiot, who was born and raised in the New Orleans area. Steve and Marie were married on January 14, 1967 in Marrero at Marie’s home parish. For the following few years, they lived in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas and welcomed 2 daughters, Denise and Michele, during those years. In late 1974, they settled in Bixby, Oklahoma where they raised their young daughters. In 1987, they moved to Houston where they lived until both their daughters were in college.

Steve had an exciting and fulfilling career in the off shore oil industry. He traveled the globe for 4 decades and helped design many of the deepest water platforms in the world. His work took him to common places such as Great Britain, South Louisiana and the Texas Gulf Coast as well as exotic places like India, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Martina Franca, Italy and Curacao. Steve relished the opportunity to travel and the challenge of designing increasingly complicated structures and solving previously unsolvable problems.

In the 1990’s, once their children had graduated from high school, Marie was able to join Steve in his travels. For the next decade, they were able to spend time together living in locations across the globe where Steve’s work took them. In 1999, Steve and Marie settled in The Woodlands, Texas where they lived until late 2018 when they relocated to Allen, Texas.

Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marie who entered into eternal rest in June 2018. He is survived by his two daughters, Denise Agee and Michele Strain; son in law, Mark Strain; grandchildren, Wes Agee, Kyle Agee, Wyatt Agee, Travis Agee, Jackie Strain, Nickie Strain and Alex Strain and his sister, Norma Doutey.

A rosary will be recited at 9:45 AM on Friday February 22, 2019 at St Jude Catholic Church 1515 N. Greenville Avenue, Allen, Texas 75002 prior to the Mass of Christian Burial which will be held at 10:30 AM also on Friday February 22, 2019 at the same location.  Inurnment will follow at the St. Jude Columbarium.

Steve was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He truly valued his friends and colleagues around the world with whom he made memories and shared experiences. He will be remembered fondly and missed by all.
