Wanda Tyler Greenfield was born February 12, 1927 in Wells, Texas to Amon Roy Tyler and Ruth Jacobson Tyler and went on to her heavenly reward on December 23, 2016.
She was first and foremost, a woman of faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, mentor and friend to many. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Keller Preston Greenfield as well as her parents and siblings. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, D. Tyler and Anne Greenfield of Kingsport, Tennessee, daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Christos Tsatsoulas of Richardson, Texas and daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Mike Agapos of Memphis, Tennessee and grandchildren Charles and Elaine Greenfield of Kingsport, Tennessee, Jonathan, Alexander and Christina Tsatsoulas of Richardson, Texas and Michael, Benjamin and Andrew Agapos of Memphis, Tennessee.
At the age of 10, Wanda trusted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and that relationship truly shaped the rest of her life. She attended school in Wells and O'Donnell before graduating from Brownfield High School in 1944. She began her college studies at Wayland Junior College where she played basketball for the Wayland Flying Queens. She continued her education at Hardin Simmons University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948. On August 31st of 1948 she married Keller Preston Greenfield in Brownfield, Texas. The couple moved to Waco where Wanda taught school in LaVega ISD while Keller finished at Baylor. When the couple moved to Houston for Keller's medical school, she taught at Deer Park ISD. During that time she received her master's degree from the University of Houston. She and her husband moved to Denver City, Texas in May of 1956. During the 21 years of living in Denver City, she and her family were active members of First Baptist Church were Wanda taught Sunday School, lead many bible studies, worked in the youth group, sponsored many trips to Glorieta, and even taught herself to play the organ when the church needed an organist. In the community she taught school, taught sewing lessons through the 4-H club, lead charm and etiquette classes in her home and was elected as the first woman school board member where she served for 7 years until she moved to Dallas, Texas in September of 1977.
Wanda lived out the reminder of her life in the Dallas/Richardson area. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Richardson where she lead bible studies, taught single adult Sunday School, hosted numerous DNOW weekends and served as a mentor to many. She was elected to and served on the Richardson School Board for one term. She was a realtor/broker with Ebby Halliday Realtors for a number of years and achieved the Diamond Circle status as one of Ebby's top realtors. She remained a broker with Wanda Greenfield Real Estate until the end of 2015.
She had the gift of hospitality and always had an open room in her home and in her heart for those who needed it. She was an excellent cook and a seamstress extraordinaire. She was honored and adored by her husband and children who thought she could do just about anything. She was strong, wise, creative and a role model for others to follow. Most importantly she was a committed prayer warrior and a faithful follower of Christ. Her greatest desire and prayer was that all of her children, their spouses and all 8 grandchildren would know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
Colossians 1:9-12 New International Version (NIV)
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
Wanda was truly an inspiration for all who knew her, and no doubt positively influenced countless lives. Hers was truly a life well lived.
