Melody Dawn Carey was born on March 10, 1965 in Grand Prairie Texas to Richard Edward, and Maudine Eloise Carey. She was the baby of the family of five boys, William, Paul, Michael, Robert, and M.Scott, and one sister, Tamara. We say baby, but she was far from it.
From the beginning of her life, we knew Melody as a strong, intelligent, kind, funny, caring, generous, head strong person that would fight for what she believed in. Her smile and her laugh is what we will always remember about her.
She grew up in a military lifestyle, as the daughter of a Marine General. She was always proud of being a Marine's Daughter. If we didn't know it, we would have said that she was a Marine. The Sergeant Major for the General.
She grew up moving around the country every few years. She was very strong academically as well as athletically. She shined and excelled in all school sports. She made Basketball one of her trademarks. As Captain of her high school team at Quantico she took them to the Championship. She was the State MVP. She also excelled in golf. She always had the longest drive in tournaments. But above all, she loved her days on the course with Dad the most. In softball, she took her office team to the top. Her passion to participate as well as enjoy sports events like football, and Nascar made her Mel. She loved Tony Stewart. If she could of, she would have taken him home.
Melody excelled in everything she did from school to her career. She graduated top of her high school class and was offered a position on the Ohio State Women's Basketball team. She attended Ohio State in 1985 playing on the team. But, with her amazing gift of writing she transferred to Kansas University to pursue her major in English and Journalism as well as a Masters in Marketing. I must insert here that she loved animals so much that she really wanted to be a Veterinarian, but could not bear losing one animal, so she changed her mind. (From Antelopes to Zebras, she loved them all). While attending school, she began working within the restaurant business, which was perfect for her because she was so social. She enjoyed being around people and enjoying a good game, good food, and a good time. She was so good at what she did that this began a new career path. She managed many restaurants, working her way up to corporate Planning, and working with all the Top Chefs. She so enjoyed the food business and soon became our favorite Chef. She was currently working as a Food and Product set designer and traveled extensively doing commercial television shoots.
Melody loved life. Most of all, she loved family. She adored spending time with her parents, brothers, sisters, sister-in-laws: Julie, Janet, and Cindy, nieces: Mindy, Brittany, Tabatha, Amy, and Kristin nephews: Robby, Cole and Paul-Eugene. She was a good wife in her marriage to Tom. We all looked to her as the glue to keep us bonded. We had family reunions as much as possible which included all of us gathered together laughing, telling stories, watching sports, playing games and cooking. We will all cherish those memories and have them documented in photos, that being another love of hers. Pictures and photos, family, friends, animals, and country and she cherished them all. She loved to travel and see new things and go off with a family member to see one of her teams play or a good NASCAR race. Looking through her memories of photos, it is plain to see that she loved Hawaii. Most of us had been there with her, golfing, swimming, enjoying. Always think of Mel when you think of Hawaii.
Among other loves to think of Mel, always smile when you watch one of her teams. From the Ohio State Buckeyes, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, or the Texas Rangers. Enjoy a good Nascar race and lift your glass. Watch a golf tournament and smile.
Melody came home to be with her parents in Dallas Texas and ended up a true Texan.
Melody was also a very spiritual person. She loved God and studied his word. We will always remember Melody as LOVE, LAUGHTER, AND HOPE.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Melody on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Blvd Plano, Texas 75093
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps not record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 12:4-8
Hopethose who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
A poem we found that Melody wrote sums up her faith:
A Church is a place where we go to pray.
To read the Bible and begin to see.
For in this Church God is trying to say,
put down your arms and believe in me.
The Preacher dressed in a robe of gray.
And the choir with a smile on their face,
For on this bright and holy day,
God forgives us in this holy place.
The candles are shinning with a solemn light,
and the cross gives out an illuminant glow.
They all give out a beautiful sight,
to assure us that God does really know.
And so you know that God does care,
and that his feelings are really true.
And his love he wants to share,
with everyone in the world.
Especially You- Melody!!
